April 2024 saw the opening of Vert de Venise Contemporary Art with a superb exhibition by Katia Margolis, The Colour of Time. Margolis unveiled a series of works in a variety of media including watercolour, ink, oil and acrylic. These works were created using an enchanting and unmistakably Venetian palette of translucent blues and greens, reflecting the interplay of light, sea and sky on the canals of Venice and on the open sea of the lagoon.
Of particular interest was a cycle of works devoted to Venice in the rain, revealing the seasonal beauty of rainfall in the city. Other highlights included mixed-media works combining oil painting with delicate gauze fabric, a hallmark feature that recurs regularly in Margolis’s work. A much-admired painting in this mixed medium was a beautifully textured painting, Penelope, depicting one the distinctive three-posted bricole that mark out the waterways of the lagoon.
The gallery opening was well attended, coinciding with the 2024 Venice Biennale. Vert de Venise also offered an exquisite and affordable range of signed prints and limited edition ceramics based on this recent cycle of work.
